Children & Youth Education
“Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom.” - the Baha’i Writings
We have several global initiatives for the spiritual education of our children (aged 5-10), junior youth (aged 11-14), and youth (aged 15-30).
As each stage in life presents its own unique challenges and bounties, the educational programs and spaces we offer will differ according to each age group. Please contact the Reno Assembly (reno.lsa@gmail.com) for more information regarding these programs.
Children’s classes, for little ones ages 5–11, are for a community’s youngest and most precious treasures. They provide the early seeds of moral and spiritual education and introduce the oneness of humanity. All of the community’s children are welcome. These classes help children discover and strengthen their inherent spiritual qualities like kindness, patience and generosity through stories, songs, prayers and art.
The Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program, designed for those ages 12–14, motivates young people to explore complex issues, consult about neighborhood needs, plan and carry out acts of service and find positive avenues for recreation and artistic expression. Faced with navigating a crucial time in their lives, participants work to build moral clarity for the many decisions they’ll face. Working with mentors called “animators,” youth from all backgrounds develop a global identity, wisdom, compassion, decision-making skills and a mindset of service to others.
Activities for youth vary widely (aged 15-30), though many are involved in study circles (see Study Circle page). We have created spaces to discuss relevant spiritual and social topics, such as careers focused on the service to humanity, addressing racism and promoting the fundamental equality of all humanity, and offering space for discussion, the arts, and building friendships.
